A shapeshifting alien creature infiltrates an Antarctic research station in this sci-fi/horror masterpiece. Director John Carpenter cranks up the dread and paranoia, aided by legendary music composer Ennio Morricone, legendary cinematographer Dean Cundey, and legendary special effects man Rob Bottin. The cast features a few legends, too, including Kurt Russell and Keith David. Fair warning: this movie earns its “R” rating — Bottin’s effects work is groundbreaking and occasionally stomach-churning.
